A Note from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Maddocks

Change is one of the constants in life, and this year is certainly one of change for the University.

Some of the causes of change are beyond our control: the reshaping of the Northern Territory’s economy, greater competition in the regional and global marketplace, the manner in which people access tertiary education and the fundamental changes occurring within the sector.

Our response has been to proactively embrace change, make tough decisions and, importantly, plan in such a way as to future-proof CDU in this complex context.

We are continuing to bring together the elements that will help realise our goal for a campus in the CBD as part of the City Deals project, and I look forward to sharing more details with you when we reach planning milestones.

Linked to our CBD project is a plan for the future of our existing campuses in Casuarina, Palmerston and the Waterfront. We have appointed experienced consultants, led by Hames Sharley, to guide us through a master-planning process for each campus.

Part of their brief is to engage with staff, students, stakeholders and neighbours to ensure that we gain deep insights into each campus and the potential that each one holds.

I encourage you to take every opportunity to have input into these processes over the next few months.
